A Foot of Snow!

Monday morning we awoke to a Winter Wonderland. I thought it would be good to shovel it (for the exercise) but when I saw how much of it there was and felt how wet and heavy it was...Well let's just say the snowblower in the picture got some use that day!










A Snow Day is a good day to let bunny run around and to play with him in the kitchen.






Bugs is really friendly and very docile. Ian and Colin love to pet him.





It's also a good time to perfect the art of blanket tent making. Mommy and Ian are becoming excellent at it!




Sometimes you get stir crazy in Winter but we played outside in the snow as well. It was fun!

Star Wars Fever

Ian has always been crazy about "Star Wars." Unfortunately, today (the first day of our week long vacation) he really does have a fever! So he's watching "Star Wars" on the couch. Poor guy!

Valentimes

Today is Valentine's Day! We all got cards and candy and some small gifts. Mommy got flowers that the boys picked. One rose from each of her Valentines. Hope you had a great one!

Sleigh Ride!

At the fair they have an old schoolhouse, a meeting hall, and a smithy among other things. Before or after your sleigh ride, you can warm up inside with hot food and drinks or head into the smithy to watch the blacksmiths at work. We had a great time despite a strong wind. The sun helped a lot.





















Is this ingenious or what? This roller flattens out any passengers that fall off the sleighs so the horses don't trip. It works, too. There were only a couple of bumps the whole ride.




















I recommend a horse drawn sleigh ride to everyone!

A Good Hike

Sunday started out mild but promised to turn very windy. We headed out early to get a hike in and to let Jake run for a good while. It was definitely nice to be outside with comfortable temperatures. Apparently the birds agreed with us. We could hear them singing in the woods and occasionally we spotted wings flashing over us against a background of soft, white sky.

It was a good hike and a nice beginning to a fun filled Sunday. We went on a horse drawn sleigh ride after that. Ian and Steph then went to a birthday party for one of his classmates while Colin and I headed home for his nap time.

Lego Mania!

Winter is a good time to play Legos inside and Ian is quite the builder! Below is the Republic Attack Gunship from the Star Wars series. The kit had 1,045 pieces and was recommended for 9 year olds and up. Ian built it himself!











There are doors that open and various compartments with things and Clone Troopers inside them.

The Lego Shark. Carefully crafted and refined, it is constructed of premium corrugated cardboard and 3/4" masking tape. I was somewhat ashamed, though, that no duct tape was used.




The tapered right side serves as the handle, making this a right-handed model.





The patented Lego Shark logo. On the inside is written the kits we've built together (so far just the Republic Attack Gunship). More to come.

What amazes me is the things (usually spaceships) that Ian creates on his own. He's very inventive and his designs are original. In a future entry, I will present a second gallery of his work. The first one can be found in the entry dated March 9, 2008.
