Scenic Train Ride

Late last year we took a ride on a part of the old Belfast & Moosehead Lake railway. It was great fun for us all to be on a train. There was a small museum/giftshop with old railroad lanterns and Railroad Detective badges, old tickets, photographs, etc. I even found a nice D&H (Delaware and Hudson) pin. Good stuff. They showed us an old style engine turntable, too. They drove an engine onto a circular platform that rotated on a single ball bearing (about the size of a grapefruit). After it was completely on the platform and perfectly balanced, a man rotated 40 tons of machinery 180 degrees all by himself, turning the full sized engine around and ready for the next run. Incredible. On the ride they had snacks and refreshments in the dining car. The best thing, though, was the ride itself, the relaxed time together, and the great views out the large windows.
